2-D, 3-D Adventure Game with heavier emphasis on finding items, solving puzzles and figuring out where to go next. Most often, areas are connected enabling real time movement from realm to realm instead of an “overworld” and items or special powers are needed to progress to the next place. Also involves collecting weapons and obtaining powers.
Action Adventure Same elements as the standard 2-D and 3-D Adventure with a higher emphasis on action, combos and fighting.
Mission Adventure Begun a few years ago with the advent of Grand Theft Auto III, known also as "Sand box" or "Free roam" adventure. Usually a cop/crime story, side missions and collectibles, weapons, secrets and more.
Point and Click Perhaps one of the most forerunning types of adventure, more of an interactive graphic novel, pointing what you want to "search" or "get" find clues and navigate via pointing to an arrows and icons.
